(ABC 6 News) – We live in an increasingly polarized society, but some members of the Rochester community are trying to change that with a little respect.

Creator Wendell Amstutz recognized the problem and wanted to try to bring people together.

That’s why Amstutz declared 2024 the year of respect; he hopes to help people value people, even when you don’t see eye to eye.

“I’m finding out even people who I historically have despised, I’m finding that I get to know them,” said Amstutz. “There’s a good person underneath there that is worth knowing and worth valuing.”

Earlier tonight, speakers from different walks of life spoke at the kick off event at 125 Live to spread the message of respect.

By getting to know one another, the we can build relationships even when disagree.
