RFD responds to fire at Days Inn Hotel

(ABC 6 News) – The Rochester Fire Department (RFD) responded to a fire at the Days Inn Hotel, 3595 Commercial Drive SW in Rochester at approximately 6:48 a.m. Wednesday morning.

RFD arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a third story window on the rear of the building. The fire alarm was sounding and evacuation of guests was taking place.

RFD says they made entry into a room to find the fire had been extinguished by the automatic fire sprinkler system.

A search of the room and adjacent rooms found none were occupied. No other injuries were reported.

The amount of damage is still being estimated, but the sprinkler system limited fire damage to the room, according to RFD.

An investigation determined that the fire started on a cooktop range within the fire room, and it’s possible the occupant of the room had left a burner turned on the stove, before leaving the premise.

Crews remained on scene for about 45 minutes clearing smoke, and attempting to limit further water damage from the sprinkler flow.

Assisting RFD at the scene were the Rochester Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
