(ABC 6 News) – Two Rochester men were killed in a plane crash about a half-mile west of the Red Wing Regional Airport Tuesday afternoon.

And while it may take months before we know what caused the deadly crash that killed instructor John Zeman and student pilot Ethan Smith, we are getting a better picture of what may have taken place during flight.

According to the track log of the flight that crashed in Red Wing shows the plane was in the air for less than two hours. We’ve learned at some points during the training, the plane even descended at high rates of speed.

ABC 6 News Anchor Laura Lee spoke with Certified Flight Instructor Adam Troendle as he walked us through the training flight.

We want to point out that Troendle is not connected to the investigation but rather shares his expertise with ABC 6 News.

The NTSB and FAA are expected to take months to complete the investigation.
