UPDATE: Missing boater found at Chester Park boat launch

(ABC 6 News) A report of a capsized canoe caused a scare in Olmsted County Wednesday evening.

However, the story has a happy ending, as the missing woman was found waiting for her panicked friend at the boat launch.

A call for help came in around 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Chester Woods park. stating that there was a missing person in the water.

When our crew arrived Olmsted County Emergency responders had already cleared the scene.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that the caller had overheard one woman yelling that she needed help and that someone was in the water.

First responders prepared for a water rescue, and learned from the woman that her boat had been pulling a paddleboard, and that she had become separated from her friend.

Unbeknownst to the caller and woman, the friend had made it back to the boat launch without her.

“In the end, it was a big misunderstanding and everyone was safe,” Capt. James Schueller with the OCSO said.
