(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester elementary school teacher is being recognized by an international reading program for inspiring the love of reading and learning in her students.

Amber Henry is a second-grade Spanish immersion teacher at Gage Elementary School. Henry’s style of teaching that kids say, makes learning fun and exciting.

Henry’s students say she is the best teacher.

“She gives us really cool rewards…she’s my favorite teacher so far,” said Jasper, Andrew, and Emma, some of her students.

Henry is one of only 200 teachers recognized through the program Epic!, which is a digital reading platform used by educators and families around the globe.

Now an ambassador for the program, Henry says teaching has always been a dream of hers and that her students have become like family.

“For me, I want my students to show compassion to each other, be kind to people, and be empathetic,” said Henry.

She says reading, is a huge part of her student’s day, and the kids love it as well.

“They’re just 7 and 8-year-olds and they need to learn vocabulary at this age. Through books and reading is one of the big things, I do read aloud two or three times a day,” Henry explained.

Henry says that the room she teaches in now as a second-grade teacher is the same room that she sat in when she was a second-grade student at Gage Elementary School.
