(ABC 6 News) – Byron Public Schools will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the construction projects that are occurring around the district.

The $44 million project will include work improvements to the District Administration and Community Services building, additional classrooms to the high school, a new 850-seat auditorium, and a new athletic facility on the high school campus.

The event will take place on Thursday, August 4 at 2:00 PM in front of Byron High School. Members of the Byron community are invited to attend.

After the failure of passing two referendums, the citizens in the Byron Public School District voted to approve the $44 million referendum last November. Working with ISG Architects and Knutson Construction, staff throughout the district have been working to design spaces and fields that will greatly benefit the overall student learning environment. This project will also help to create community spaces that will meet the needs of citizens of all ages.

The event is scheduled to be outside, but will move inside Byron High School in the event of inclement weather.
