(ABC 6 News) – A “Be The Match” drive was held at the Apache Mall, in hopes of finding him a match.

Ari, who’s not even two years old yet, is battling Hyper IgM Syndrome, an extremely rare disease that affects around two in 1 million newborn boys.

Finding a match for these transplants can be difficult.

“We decided to come to the mall today because it’s got a lot of foot traffic, but our demographics are between ages 18 and 40,” Ari’s grandmother Sharon Chambers said.

One of the drive’s organizers said over 100 people have signed up to be a donor in hopes of finding a match for Ari.

So far, there is over 39 million people listed on the registry, but no one has been a match.

Organizers of the drive are encouraging everyone to sign up to be stem cell donors.
