Storm damage in Taopi, Minn, initial survey suggests EF2 tornado

(ABC 6 News) – Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisc. indicate damage could be from an EF2 tornado.
NWS La Crosse meteorologists are surveying damage across southeast MN and northeast IA. Preliminary storm damage results at Taopi, MN in Mower Co. indicates EF2 damage.

ABC 6 News reporter Emily Pofahl is in Taopi, Minn Wednesday morning showing the damage after storms Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.
Taopi is out in full force now assessing the damage…most lost their homes and their farms. Everyone I spoke to was safe in their basement when the storm hit. One man I spoke to says he looked out his window and saw a tornado moments before it hit his house. @ABC6NEWS pic.twitter.com/8rkCDHeW3V

Early reports from the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisc. said a house slid off its foundation, roofs are off houses, grain bins are destroyed, power lines are down and much more.
The Mower County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call for two people trapped in their basement who were rescued and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The NWS said there is a “damage track several miles long, goes through the western side of town. High likelihood of a tornado.” However, a tornado has not been confirmed as of 6 a.m.
NWS crews will be in Southeast Minnesota and North Iowa today to survey damage. “It may take several days to fully survey all the damage and a storm survey public information statement will be released as these findings are completed.”
The Mower County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to stay out of the area while crews start the recovery and cleanup process.
