RPD officer, K9 enter competition airing on ESPN, community invited to meet duo and see demo

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester Police Department officer and their K9 partner competed in the American Kennel Club/United States Police Canine Association K9 Detention Dog Challenge which will air on ESPN Sunday.

Officer Brian Roussell and K9 Sarge are one of twenty teams taking part in the competition.

The competition was held earlier this month in North Carolina and will air on ESPN2 Sunday, November 28 at 9 p.m.

Officer Roussell and Sarge competed in the explosives division, where teams had to find hidden explosive substances. They were scored on the accuracy of their search, the perfection of their alert (telling the handler where the hide is) and the find itself (a combination of the ability of the dog and the handler to accurately tell judges where the hide is located).

The community is invited to meet "RPD’s new celebrities, get Sarge’s pawtograph and see a short demo. Visitors can also learn more about Animal Control’s work in the community."
