ROCHESTER, Minn. (ABC 6 News) – The Rochester Police Department is piecing together what happened after officers were called for a large fight in downtown Rochester early Monday morning.

Officers were called for a fight near Broadway Ave S and 3rd St SW just after 2 a.m.

When officers arrived they saw a man unconscious and bleeding from the head. The man eventually regained consciousness but was not cooperative with the officers.

Witnesses told police they saw one person from the group go put something in a car. Officers checked the car and noticed a handgun on the front seat. The person who put the gun there does not have a permit to carry.

Witnesses also told officers some of the people in the group had broken beer bottles to use as weapons. Police said no one had been cut or stabbed.

Police reviewed surveillance video and said it appeared a man picked up the man who was found unconscious and had thrown him to the ground.

The RPD said a lot of investigating still needs to be done. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

Additional details are expected to be released Wednesday.
