UPDATE: Second suspect in 2021 Austin murder case sentenced to 10 years

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: Keith Lavandas Forrest was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with credit for 562 days served, in Mower County Court Thursday.

Forrest was arrested in connection with the 2021 death of Austin resident David Harris.

Forrest, 21, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting murder in the second degree, in exchange for a 120-month executed sentence. A second charge of aggravated robbery was dismissed.

Co-defendent Miguel Nunez Jr. pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder–without intent in July of 2022.

Nunez Jr. was sentenced to 15 years in October of last year.

(ABC 6 News) – The second suspect in a 2021 Austin murder case has been scheduled for an October sentencing.

Keith Lavandas Forrest, 21, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting murder in the second degree in the death of Austin resident David Harris, in exchange for a 120-month executed sentence. A second charge of aggravated robbery was dismissed.

Forrest was committed to Mower County jail Monday, Aug. 15, pending sentencing.

His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 13, 2022.

Co-defendent Miguel Nunez Jr. pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder–without intent in July of this year.

According to court documents, police said Nunez Jr. had gone to Davis Harris’ home in Austin to buy marijuana and threatened to shoot everyone if he wasn’t given the drugs.

According to police, Harris heard the commotion and opened his bedroom door holding a gun, after which Nunez Jr. allegedly shot Harris and fled. He was later arrested in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Forrest is accused of accompanying Nunez Jr. to the home in order to steal marijuana, and of accompanying him to Sioux Falls after the shooting.

A sentencing date for Nunez Jr. has been set for October 27.
