(ABC 6 News) – A day months in the making, the non-profit The Landing MN has its grand opening Friday for the new day center.

The Landing is an organization dedicated to supporting the homeless population in Rochester and provides necessary support, services and food.

For the past few months, the Landing has had a lot of temporary spaces. Since April, the Landing has been sharing a facility with the Salvation Army and running dual operations.

The new day center is located at 426 3rd Ave. SE. and is just down the street from the Rochester Warming Center.

Every day, the Landing will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 365 days a year. Every evening, people are advised to spend the night at the Rochester Warming Center that runs from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. With this new day center, there will be 24/7 services available for the community.

The new facility provides shelter from Minn. winters, three meals a day, showers and laundry as well as on site social services and medical care. According to co-founder Holly Fifield, the new day center has been made possible through the generous support of the community.

Friday, the public was invited to take a tour of the facility and see what the center is all about.

“What I love about this place and this building is that it’s a source of unconditional love, unconditional kindness and that’s what we’re all missing in our society these days,” said Holly Fifield. “I encourage you to come and volunteer and experience it for yourself and provide it for those in need.”

The Landing is always looking for volunteers and people to spend time at the new facility.
