(ABC 6 News) – Med City showed the love for those with disabilities, during the Night of PossAbilities Gala.

The fundraiser is the companies largest fundraiser of the year. The money raised will go towards maintaining their current programs as well as implementing new ones.

These programs offer clients more than the opportunity to learn a new hobby. They give them more opportunity to get involved in the community.

Executive Director Sue Mackert, says this helps to establish more independence for those with disabilities.

“The community like many communities, is beginning to recognize that people with disabilities are around them,” Mackert said. “They’re friends they’re neighbors, they’re family members.

“But the more we get out, the more they are beginning to understand that these are human being with tremendous potential and they just bring so much to a community.”

The non-profit has been working to improve the lives of those with disabilities for decades. Originally starting out as a just three mom’s fighting to get their children in better programs. But 60 years later, PossAbilities is now helping hundreds of people become more independent and involved in the community.

The gala featured a live auction and gave the public the chance to meet some of the stars of PossAbilities programs.
