Vikings legend, Jared Allen, named 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist

(ABC 6 News) – Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, has been named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Overall, there were 15 finalists named on Wednesday including three first-time eligible players.

Allen played six season with the Vikings (2008-2013) and was 1st-team All-Pro three times during his stay in Minnesota. Allen set the Vikings single-season sack record with 22 in 2011, a mark that is still tied for 3rd all-time in NFL history. His 136 career sacks ranks as the 12th-most in NFL history.

Allen also played for the Kansas City Chiefs (2004-2007), Chicago Bears (2014-2015), and Carolina Panthers (2015).

Allen was inducted into the Vikings Ring of Honor on Oct. 30, 2022 making him the 27th member of the club.

The Hall of Fame’s board of selectors will meet in the coming weeks to choose a maximum of five modern-era finalists for enshrinement. The class of 2023 will be announced Feb. 9 during the NFL Honors show, three days before the Super Bowl.
