Individual State Qualifiers from Day 1 of Section 1AA TxF Championships

(ABC 6 News) — Day 1 of the Section 1AA Championships began Thursday in Lakeville with a handful of local athletes already state-bound.

Kasson-Mantorville’s David Obst claimed the boys 3200m in around 10 minutes to open the list of early qualifiers. Plainview-Elgin-Millville has its two State qualifiers in Lauren Rott and Nick Walch. Rott won the girls discus with a 130-05 attempt while Walch claimed the boys pole vault on a 12-03 try.

Stewartville TxF has two Tigers headed to State as well, Audrey Shindelar punching her ticket via the girls high jump, winning with a 5-01 finish. Teammate Peyton Byrne landed a 52-05 on the boys shot put to earn his spot in the State Championships.

Heading into Day 2, Stewartville and PEM are still in the mix for winning Section 1AA as Faribault currently leads all teams with 36 points. Several athletes advanced past the preliminaries on Thursday to make it to Saturday, with Byron passing 15 into Day 2.

Former Prep of the Week Olivia Walsh finished first in the girls 200m prelims. The Austin Packer also set a new personal record with a 26.8 second-dash. Fellow Packer Joseph Walker ran a fifth-place 11.62 in the boys 100m prelims, achieving a personal best of his own.

Kasson-Mantorville’s Delaney Awe set a school record during the girls 100m prelims by finishing in 13.41 seconds. Teammate Karlynn Gustafson’s second-place 1:02.3 in the girls 400m prelims was a personal best.

Albert Lea’s Jal Throat finished fifth in the boys 300m hurdles, qualifying with a personal record of 44.21.
