(ABC 6 News) – After a week of Christmas shopping drama, one area church is slowing things down to give people a chance to reflect on the Christmas season.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is hosting the ‘Wonder of the Nativity’ this weekend. Giving the public the chance to see over 200 nativity scenes from around the world.

Scott Frei helped spearhead this event that saw over 2 thousand visitors last year.

“People from the community and our congregation brought in all of these nativity scenes to be on display,” Frei said. “We’ve been doing this for 22 years and every year it just gets better,

“If you haven’t stopped by this event, you’re missing out.”

In addition to the hundreds of nativity scenes, members of the church will provide entertainment with Christmas music, along with Holiday treats.

One new addition that Frie is proud of is the ‘Because of Jesus Christ’ room. Giving visitors a place to reflect on the biblical meaning behind Christmas. Visitors can also share their thoughts on Christ by writing it onto a piece of paper that is posted on the Because of Christ Wall.

“It’s the gift of peace, comfort and love.” J.J. Fletcher, another organizer of the event. “I hope people can reflect on the sacred nature of it,

“But also reflect on the blessing in their life and the peace they feel on the gifts God have given them.”

Wonder of the Nativity will be on display Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 2300 Viola Heights Dr NE, Rochester, MN

The event is free and runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
