Veterans Day events and discounts

(ABC 6 News) – Veterans Day is on Saturday, November 11.

Here is a list of events and discounts being offered to veterans to commemorate the day.

EVENTS

Minnesota

The official State of Minnesota Veterans Day will be back in-person this year at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights on Saturday, November 11. The event will kick off with a free community breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. The official program will start at 10:00 a.m. For more information, CLICK HERE.

Rochester: There will be a program and free breakfast, open to the public, on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2023 at the International Event Center, near the airport. There will be a free breakfast served, courtesy of Powers Ventures, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by the program from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is meant to honor and remember our Veterans so we never forget the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedoms. The program main speaker will feature Carla Nelson, State Senator, Chad Stowers, retired 23 year Army Veteran as emcee and well known singer, Brad Boice, along with others, including several Color Guards.
The public is encouraged to attend.

Austin: The Pacelli school community and the public are invited to the gym on November 10th, ahead of Veterans Day, to observe Veterans Day and to honor the sacrifice of our nation’s military personnel and to specifically highlight those in the Pacelli Family who have served in the military. The program will run from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

Albert Lea: Veterans Day programs on Friday, November 10. Southwest Middle School at 8:15 a.m., Halverson Elementary

Albert Lea: The American legion Post #92 will have a free meal for veterans all day Saturday while supplies last. Post #92 will host an Honor Guard at 4:00 p.m. and music by Bob Schleif at 5 p.m. Additionally, there will be a 50% discount on all new memberships.

Grand Meadow: High School Choir will perform at our Veteran’s day program, usually during 1st hour in the Legacy Gym. Friday, November 10th, 2024

Adams: To honor veterans, the Rippin’ Stitchers of the Adams-Rose Creek Area will present Quilts of Valor to four veterans on November 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Adams American Legion Post 146.

Hayfield: Hayfield Elementary School (grades K-5) will perform 2 songs at their annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 10th at 9:15 a.m. in the High School West Gym. Each year, the kids learn to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and another patriotic song for this event.

This year they will also be singing, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”

Chatfield: On Nov. 11 the Chatfield Center for the Arts invites the public to join the Chatfield Brass Band in a tribute to our veterans featuring patriotic musical selections and marches. Pieces include Americans We March, Within These Hallowed Halls, Armed Forces Salute, Chimes of Liberty, Theme from Schindler’s List (featuring Tiffany Strande, violin soloist), God Bless America, and The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Iowa

Mason City: The Mason City Veterans Memorial Association will hold their annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony Saturday, November 11, 2023 with assembly and program at 10:30 a.m. at Central Park.

A proclamation signed by Mayor Bill Schickel at the November 7 City Council meeting will be read. The ceremony will close with a moment of silence and taps.

Coffee and doughnuts served immediately following at the All Vets Center.

Charles City: The Charles City FFA will host the 2023 Charles City Schools Veterans Day Program on Friday November, 10th at the Charles City Middle School. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. with the program beginning at 10:15a.m. You will hear performances from the Charles City High School Choir and Band, student speeches, and a keynote speaker.

This event is open to the public and all area veterans are encouraged to attend. Once again Charles City FFA and the Charles City Skills USA Chapter will be gifting all veterans with a kneeling solider yard sign designed and built by Charles City Students. We hope to see you on November 10th!

Charles City: The Charles City VFW will host a Uniform Dance at 1505 N. Grand Ave. on Saturday, Nov. 11. Programming will start at 6 p.m. with dancing beginning at 7 p.m. The event will hold a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Music will be performed by Beaver Creek.

To receive the free drink offer, veterans just need to present their valid military I.D. at a participating Scooter’s Coffee location. Fareway Grocery Stores: Fareway will be offering an in-store ONLY 15% discount to veterans, retired, active-duty, reserve, and guard service members on November 11. Hy-Vee: All veterans and active-duty military members can enjoy a FREE DINE-IN ONLY buffet-style breakfast from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on November 11 at Hy-Vee stores. FREE donuts and coffee will also be offered at all Dollar Fresh Market locations. Additionally, veterans and active-duty military will receive 15% off a grocery purchase on Veterans Day when shopping at Hy-Vee in-store, through Hy-Vee Aisles Online or at Dollar Fresh Market locations using promo code HOMEFRONT15. Goodyear Auto Service: Veterans and active-duty service members with a valid ID receive 10% off instantly and can be combined with all current offers, November 10 through 14. The “Free Car Care for Vets” promotion includes free tire, alignment, brake, fuel system, and fluid checks

Minnesota State University-Mankato: The College of Allied Health and Nursing on campus is honoring active, reserve, and retired military members by offering a variety of FREE dental, hearing and health services on Thursday, November 9. The services will be held in the University’s Clinical Sciences Building (150 South Road, north of the Taylor Center and east of Ford Hall). Free dental cleanings, exams, x-rays, and fluoride treatments will be provided. Cleanings will be at 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and are by appointment only. Call 507-389-1542.

Target: Target is offering a 10% military discount from November 11 to all active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families.

Applebees: The restaurant will give thanks to all active-duty military, veterans, reserves and National Guard with the offer of an in-restaurant complimentary full-size entrée from an exclusive menu. And when dining at Applebee’s on November 11, these special guests will also receive a $5 Bounce Back Card to redeem for dine-in, To Go, or delivery within a three-week redemption window. Dunkin Donuts: On Veterans Day, veterans and active-duty military can enjoy a free donut at Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide, no purchase necessary.

Famous Dave’s: On Veterans Day, all former and current military personnel will receive a free Georgia chopped pork sandwich plus a side. Dine-in or to go.

Texas Roadhouse— Veterans and active-duty military receive a meal voucher on November 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. These vouchers are good for dine in or carry out and can be used until May 30, 2023. For more, CLICK HERE.

Outback Steakhouse: This Veterans Day, all military veterans and active service members can enjoy a free bloomin’ onion and Coca-Cola with valid proof of service.

Target: Veterans, active-duty military members and their families can get 10% off in-store or online orders. The Military Appreciation Discount runs through November 12 and can be used on two separate transactions. Customers must first register at www.target.com/circle/military to confirm eligibility.

Red Lobster: Veterans, active-duty military and reservists can get a free order of Walt’s favorite shrimp and sides, which includes six hand-breaded butterflied shrimp served with cocktail sauce, fries and coleslaw.
