Two arrested after Saturday morning car chase in Olmsted County

(ABC 6 News) – Two men were arrested in Byron after a construction site burglary-turned-car-chase Saturday morning.

A Rochester police officer saw two men loading boxes and items into a white Dodge Caravan in an underground parking lot at a construction site in the 4600 block of Pines View Place NW, Rochester, at about 1:47 a.m. Aug. 27.

Capt. Casey Moilanen with the Rochester Police Department said the officer waited for backup, then, when the men pulled out of the complex, they attempted a traffic stop.

The Dodge Caravan fled and officers did not pursue them at that time.

Shortly after, another officer driving north on Superior Drive NW saw the suspect vehicle driving south in the opposite lane.

Moilanen said the suspects accelerated and veered toward the officer, who had to drive “almost off the roadway” to avoid being hit.

Officers then pursued the Dodge Caravan to 19th Street NW, then 60th Avenue NW, then to Highway 14, which the suspects took into Byron.

As the suspects drove, the passenger tossed items from the construction site out of the car and onto the roadway, Moilanen said.

The vehicle lost control on the 1000 block of Frontier Road SE and went into a yard.

The suspects fled on foot, Moilanen said.

Officers from RPD, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter, and a drone from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office located Kyle Felter of Oronoco and Taylor Suchla of Rochester in a field behind the residence.

Both face charges of 2nd-degree burglary, fleeing officers on foot, and possession of burglary tools.

37-year-old Felter, the alleged driver, faces additional charges of fleeing officers in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving after license revocation, and obscuring his license plate.

31-year-old Suchla, the alleged passenger, faces an additional charge of possession of a sechedule 5 controlled substance.
