(ABC 6 News) – Rochester’s new “Downtown Task Force” is holding their first meeting as they officially kick off a new effort to address issues facing businesses in the downtown area.

It comes just as a new downtown restaurant opens inside the old “Dooley’s Pub” space; A business that faced the exact challenges the task force is looking to address.

It’s called ‘The Well Dining’ located on 1st Avenue southwest.

After Dooleys closed in 2021, the space got an extreme makeover. Transforming it into a restaurant offering casual dining that feels high end.

General manager Heather McCullogh says the inspiration for the well came from the Med City community.

“We want people to walk in knowing they’re going to have a great experience not wondering what’s going to happen because we’re short on this and we’re shot on that,” McCullogh said. “We want this to be a new, fun, central place in downtown for everyone to come together. Bring it back. “

According to McCullough they have already hired nearly 100 employees and they are still looking to bring more people on board.

The Well is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Downtown Rochester Task Force is holding three other meetings in March.

The first two will be Friday March 3rd, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Chateau Theatre and Monday March 6th, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Pasquale’s Neighborhood Pizzeria.

The third will be held virtually on Tuesday March 14th, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
