Silver Lake Pool opens, despite possible vandalism
Silver Lake Pool opened before the holiday weekend despite a report filed with Rochester Police Department suggesting additional vandalism.
The pool’s initial opening was supposed to be a month ago, but after a vandalism incident destroyed the pool cover, the opening date was pushed back to early July.

According to the police report, Capt. Moilanen with RPD says that "it appears that somebody’s damaged a fence that’s near the deep end of the pool. The report notes that the fence has been bent and that one of the lifeguard tower platforms had been bent slash broken and is inoperable."
Despite that, however, the pool continued with its grand opening Thursday afternoon to allow swimmers.
Ben Boldt, the Recreation Supervisor for Rochester Parks and Rec, says there was no damage to a fence and any additional damage is due to age-related infrastructure. Boldt says he is excited to have another pool open for the community to enjoy.

"There were days in June when it was nice and hot where we had Soldiers Field at capacity. So, now that we have Silver Lake open, it gives us a great other location so we hopefully won’t be hitting those capacity marks and have a space for everybody to be able to get out and cool off a little bit for the rest of this summer," Boldt said.
The pool is open and ready to welcome the community back before the holiday weekend.
ABC 6 News has requested the police report and will continue looking into the possible vandalism.
