Rochester police find deceased couple during wellness check

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man and woman were found dead in their apartment over the weekend, after Rochester police executed a welfare check at family’s request.

Capt. Casey Moilanen with the Rochester Police Department said the 22-year-old woman’s parents contacted RPD on Nov. 13, after having no contact from their daughter since Nov. 3.

Moilanen said the parents knew the woman lived with her 38-year-old boyfriend in a NW Rochester apartment.

RPD determined that no one had heard from the man since Nov. 4, and performed a wellness check at about 7:46 p.m., Nov. 13.

Officers found the pair deceased in the apartment with no obvious signs of trauma, making a homicide unlikely.

Moilanen said RPD is waiting on autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the cause of death.

The names of the couple and location will be released after family has been notified, he added.

Moilanen said there was evidence of drug use in the apartment, and it’s possible that the couple died of an overdose.

If so, Moilanen said, Rochester police will seek 3rd-degree homicide charges against anyone who provided deadly drugs.

The deaths are still under investigation, and anyone with information about the couple is encouraged to contact Rochester police at 507-328-6800 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) with information about the couple’s movements in the days before their deaths.
