Report: Iowa liquor sales top $431M in 2022

(ABC 6 News) – The Iowa Alcoholic Beverage Division (ABD) released its annual financial report on Tuesday which shows liquor sales topped $431 million in the 2022 fiscal year.

Liquor sales in the state were up 3.75% from last year and have continually increased since 2017. The largest increase was in the 2021 fiscal year when liquor sales increased from $367 million to $415 million, a 13.22% increase.

The report says 19,725 total alcohol licenses, permits, and certificates were issued totaling $22.4 million in license revenue collected.

Also, over $13.6 million in beer tax and $8.1 million in wine tax were collected.

The report says over 72 million total gallons of beer, including native beer, were sold. Also, more than 4.5 million total gallons of wine, including native wine, and 6.4 million total gallons of liquor were sold in fiscal year 2022.

Vodka, domestic whiskey, Canadian whiskey, and rum topped the list of distilled spirit liquor sales.

The top liquor brands in the state are Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Black Velvet Canadian Whiskey, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey, and Hawkeye Vodka.

The top native Iowa liquor brands are Blue Ox Vodka, Gotcha Vodka, Cedar Ridge Bourbon, Swell Vodka, and Prairie Fire.
