Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office releases detainee’s cause of death

(ABC 6 News) – The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office released Melvin Tyrone Bush’s cause of death Friday, May 5, following an investigation into the 59-year-old detainee’s demise at the Adult Detention Center in March.

According to Capt. Tim Parkin, the medical examiner’s office concluded that Bush died from a “natural medical event.”

Parkin said Bush’s family was notified, and the full death investigation will be released in the near future.

(ABC 6 News) – An investigation is underway after a 59-year-old detainee of the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center died Sunday.

An Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy discovered 59-year-old Melvin Tyrone Bush not breathing during routine well-being checks at approximately 4:30 pm. on Sunday, March 5.

The detention deputy summoned additional support and began resuscitation efforts immediately. Mayo Clinic Ambulance was called to the detention center to assist the lifesaving efforts. Bush was declared deceased at St. Mary’s emergency room.

Mr. Bush’s next of kin have been notified. Mr. Bush was being held on Felony DANCO (Domestic Abuse No Contact Order) violation.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was contacted and has taken over the investigation. The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will also be performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to Mr. Bush’s family and friends upon their loss. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is also supporting our staff currently in accordance with our normal procedures. No detention deputies are on administrative leave
