OCSO reports fire at home of five children Thursday

(ABC 6 News) – A 24-year-old babysitter extinguished a potentially dangerous fire at an Eyota home Thursday, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.

Tim Parkin with the OCSO said deputies responded at about 10:30 p.m. to a home in the 200 block of Rena Belle Street NW after the man called 9-1-1 about an electrical fire.

According to the man, he heard a pop from the home’s basement and saw an electrical panel on fire.

The man was babysitting five children, ages 1, 6, 8, 8, and 14. at the time.

According to Parkin, he located a fire extinguisher and put out the visible fire, then called 9-1-1.

The OCSO did not have a damage estimate, but Parkin said there were no injuries or significant damage to the home.

The 1-year-old child was checked out in case of smoke inhalation, Parkin added.
