Mason City man charged with 2nd-degree robbery

(ABC 6 News) – A Mason City man has been arrested and charged with 2nd-degree robbery from an incident that occurred on September 30.

According to the Mason City Police Department, officers responded to a possible robbery in the 600 block of North Pennsylvania.

A male caller stated that he was trying to sell a man, later identified as 28-year-old Derek Rafael an Xbox when he didn’t feel safe and wanted to leave.

Court documents state the male caller proceeded to leave with the Xbox when Rafael allegedly struck him in the face, splitting his lip open. Rafael then allegedly tried to grab the caller.

The male caller then stated he used his knife to get away from the man. He declined medical attention.

Rafael was later taken to MercyOne and treated for minor injuries.

Rafael was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree robbery, and is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
