(ABC 6 News) -A White Bear Lake police officer was stable in the hospital Wednesday after being shot while trying to make an arrest, police said.

Officers were trying to arrest the suspect on a felony domestic assault warrant at an apartment complex around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday when shots were fired.

The officer underwent surgery and was expected to recover, but details of the officer’s injuries were not immediately released.

The officer has not yet been identified.

The officer-involved shooting resonated with law enforcement here in Rochester.

They prepare for situations like this but every encounter is different, which can make training difficult.

“You try and prepare the best you can for difficult situations like that, but training is difficult and training is expensive, and it takes people off the street from their regular job,” Lt. Tom Faudskar said.

Lieutenant Faudskar said they’re having issues recruiting and retaining officers as is, and events like these could affect that.
