(ABC 6 News) – A Norwegian tradition has made its way to the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center in Austin.

10 kick-sleds have been donated from the Sons of Norway of Austin to the city of Austin Parks and Recreation department.

The Sons of Norway acquired the kicksleds through grants from the Austin Area Foundation, Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up program, and through a Sons of Norway grant.

They are also awaiting results of grant requests from other organizations.

Nature Center director Luke Reese said they are excited to add kicksleds to many winter activities at the nature center.

“You know, in Minnesota you have this long winter. Nobody wants to cooped up inside all the time. So, the more activities we can have out in winter, out in the community during winter, the better,” Reese said.

The kicksleds are available to use right now, along with snow shoeing and cross-country skiing.
