Giving Tuesday: A day to give back to the community

(ABC 6 News) – Tuesday, is Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back to the community and encouraging people to do good by volunteering or donating to a charity or nonprofit organization of their choice.

Since its inception 10 years ago, the movement has raised billions of dollars for nonprofit organizations. Data estimates that 35 million adults participated on Giving Tuesday 2021 in the U.S., a 6% increase over 2020. Giving in the United States alone totaled $2.7 billion representing a 9% increase compared to Giving Tuesday 2020, and a 37% increase since 2019.

There are other ways to donate and help those in need, other than just giving money as many choose to volunteer their time to charities and non-profits. In 2021, volunteering on the day increased by 11% and gifts of goods (clothes, food, supplies, etc.) saw an 8% increase compared to 2020.
