(ABC 6 News) – The community came together Wednesday evening to help a community activist who has given so much to others.

Yammy bear is a fun-loving mascot known for lifting spirits and spreading kindness where ever he goes.

But the man behind the suit, Charles Jackson was recently diagnosed with amyloidosis. It’s a disease affecting his heart, organs, and nerves.

Jackson is currently undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic.

A tip night was held at Pizza Ranch in Stewartville and volunteers helped Yammy’s wife and their 3 children bust tables, engage with the customers, and help clean up.

“We have really poured out as much as we can during this time and we weren’t sure where we were going to be when we signed up for this tip night a year ago. Almost to know that we have been in the hospital and going through all of it and that all of these people are here supporting us just means the world to us and were grateful,” said Charle’s wife Carolann Jackson.

Christmas gifts that were left over from Yammy Bear’s Toy’s for Tots Drive were also donated for kids to take home with them.

The Jackson family also has a Gofundme page set up HERE to help ease the burden of medical costs.
