(ABC 6 News) – Crews responded to a fire at a downtown Rochester hotel early Wednesday evening.

The Rochester Fire department was called to Broadway Plaza at 5:32 p.m. for a report of smoke in the lobby

Firefighters first on the scene encountered light smoke and began to investigate in an attempt to locate the source. Crews found flames and smoke coming from a skyway wall on the second floor.

The fire was contained to a relatively small area, but due to its location in an awning that intersected with a wall between two floors, it took multiple crews working from different angles to make access to the entire affected area.

“The crews were able to open up the wall space below the window. they did find an active fire in the wall. they were able to extinguish that with a couple of portable extinguishers. So the rest of the time was really spent containing any water runoff that we had and then getting rid of any smoke and making sure it hadn’t migrated through the building,” said Rochester Battalion Chief Erik Propotnik.

No one was injured in the fire.
