(ABC 6 News) – Mason City is launching a new diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative, that’s meant to promote inclusivity in northern Iowa.

According to city officials, population growth and workforce attraction are among the greatest community needs.

They’re hoping with the new initiative they can attract new employers while creating meaningful change.

"The hope is that by doing these steps, and taking this pledge this conversation will get started and we’ll actually create some change," Mason City Chamber of Commerce Vice President Colleen Frein said.

To bring attention to the new program, the city is putting up new billboards as well as creating a community mural – which is located on the north side of the community health center.
