New community action group focused on community involvement

(ABC 6 News) – Sometimes getting to work or church on time can feel like challenge. It can be even hard when you have a disability.

That’s what one group in Rochester is hoping to improve.

The Community Action Group Supporting People with Disabilities is looking to get our communities behind our most vulnerable citizens.

Two of their main goals are to address staffing shortages for vulnerable adults and those with disabilities and improve transportation for trips to the grocery store, their jobs or other appointments.

“The disabled community is large. It’s larger than people think. Folks who need the services desperately need the services. And they really really on theses direct service professionals to provide care giving for them,” People of Hope ELCA Church, Pastor Dan Doering explained.

This weekend, the group will be hosting a forum to provide educate the public and develop more action plans

The first Forum will be Saturday, March 11 from 9:30 to 11:35 a.m. at People of Hope ELCA Church at 3703 Country Club Road Southwest in Rochester.
