(ABC 6 News) – A blustery winter storm bringing heavy snow, wind and ice across Southeast Minnesota is also impacting local food shelves.

Channel One Regional Food Bank says it rarely closes, but decided to close Wednesday, Feb. 22, for the safety of staff, volunteers and their guests. Channel One says despite being closed Wednesday, many people prepared ahead of time by stopping into the food bank earlier this week.

“People should think of us just like a grocery store and so we were busy in the days leading up to the storm, just like a regular grocery store will be busy leading up to the storm,” said Executive Director Virginia Merritt.

Channel One also announced late Wednesday evening that the food pantry will be closed Thursday as well.
