Austin man sentenced to decades in prison for criminal sexual conduct faces new charges

(ABC 6 News) An Austin man sentenced to decades in prison for multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct, including penetration, with a child under age 13 now faces charges from a new accuser.

Oscar Armando Vargas, 26, was accused in 2017 of raping a child he had access to between ages 6 or 7 and 15, when she reported the abuse to family members.

He was sentenced to two consecutive terms of 144 months, or 24 years in jail total after pleading guilty, but his sentence was amended to a total of 12 years with conditional release after 10 years in 2020.

Now Vargas faces new a new charge of 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under age 13.

According to court documents, the victim, now 16, reported the incident to Mower County law enforcement in May.

The alleged victim said the abuse happened around 2017, prior to Vargas’ arrest.

Vargas is scheduled to appear at a new trial in March 2023.
