22-year-old Kellogg man killed in Highway 42 crash

(ABC 6 News) – A 22-year-old Kellogg man was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Wabasha County Friday afternoon.

The Minnesota State patrol says a chain reaction crash happened at 4:10 p.m. on Highway 42, south of Kellogg.

The state patrol said a Chevy Blazer driven by 81-year-old Leo Eischen, of Rochester, was south on Highway 42, when he was rear-ended by a Chevy Pickup driven by 22-year-old Hunter Christensen, of Kellogg. A Ford Escape driven by 69-year-old Jon Lackey, of Plainview then rear-ended Christensen.

Lackey was taken to St. Marys with what are considered non-life threatening injuries. Eischen was not injured.

Wabasha Sheriff, Wabasha Police, Kellogg Fire & Wabasha Ambulance, Mayo 1 Air, MnDOT all responded to the scene.

The crash was one of two in the area within 15 minutes of each other.  The first injury crash happened 14 minutes earlier 1 mile west of Plainview on MN Highway 247 and 265th Ave.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a pickup driven by 42-year-old Robert Weis of Plainview was west on Highway 247, when he stopped to turn south onto 265th Avenue.

A Jeep Renegade driven by 46-year-old Shannon Nelson of Plainview and her two passengers, 20-year-old Lillianna Van De Walker and 81-year-old Gloria Nelson, rear-ended the pickup. The Jeep Renegade then spun around and collided with Jeep Cherokee driven by 20-year-old Jacklyn Matson of Albert Lea.

Robert Weis, Shannon Nelson, and Lillianna Van De Walker all suffered what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Wabasha County Sheriff, Plainview Police & Fire, Elgin Ambulance, Mayo Clinic Ambulance all responded to the scene.
