(ABC 6 News) – DFL State Senate Majority Kari Dziedzic will step down from her leadership post, saying her cancer has returned.

Dziedzic was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year.

Today, she announced that her cancer came out of remission some time within the past week.

“We’re heartbroken in the DFL caucus and across Minnesota Kari Dziedzic’s an unusual leader, she has led with compassion and dignity and pragmatism and calm,” said Senator Kelly Morrison (DFL). “She has brought our caucus together and was instrumental in getting historic legislation passed last year.”

Dziedzic says she’ll stay in the role until the caucus selects a new leader.
