(ABC 6 News) – SEIU Healthcare MN & IA members will hold an informational picket at Mayo Clinic’s Rochester Methodist Campus at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, to push for higher wages.

According to the union, the push confronts worker shortages and low morale for frontline Mayo workers.

In a statement, the union stated a bargaining team and Mayo leaders are discussing a “wage opener” for the third year of contracted workers. This would affect around 600 workers at Mayo Hospital – Rochester Methodist Campus.

At minimum, workers are fighting for a $20 minimum wage for all workers and proportional wage increases to match living expenses and retain staff.

In response to the picket, Mayo Clinic released the following statement.

Mayo Clinic has an unwavering commitment to staff. We are currently in contract discussions with employee groups represented by the SEIU on our Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester, Methodist Campus and have been negotiating in good faith. We are optimistic we will reach a contract agreement acceptable to all parties and will continue working hard toward that end.
