Rochester school holds ‘Safe Routes’ event

(ABC 6 News) – Ahead of the new school year, Riverside Elementary School in southeast Rochester held a ‘Safe Routes to School’ event for students and their families practice walking and biking routes to school.

Due to the school bus routes, there’s a number of kids who will need to walk to school, or get rides.

“There will be just under 100 from this neighborhood that will be walking to and from school now,” explained Riverside Elementary Principal Erin Raham.

One of the main points that was emphasized during the event Wednesday was strength and safety in numbers, and making sure students are walking in groups to and from school.

The event is also to encourage healthy habits like walking or biking to school.
