Rochester man receives probation in child porn case; charge to be dismissed after completion

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: George Harland Giles, 66, received 5 years’ probation after pleading guilty to one count of possessing child pornography in Olmsted County Court.

If Giles completes his probation with no further incidents, the charge will be dismissed after 5 years, according to sentencing records.

Giles was also ordered to pay $1,090 in court fines and fees.

George Harland Giles, 66, of Rochester pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in Olmsted County Court Thursday, May 4.

According to Giles’ plea agreement, he will receive 5 years’ probation and no jail time.
Two remaining charges of child porn possession will be dismissed, according to court documents.

Giles was charged with possession of child pornography after a Google tip led Rochester police to seize his electronics, which allegedly contained more than 150 images of Child Sexual Abuse Materials, or child porn.

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man was charged with three counts of possession of child pornography Wednesday, Jan. 18, after police received a tip from Google leading them to a SW residence.

George Harland Giles, 65, is accused of saving more than 150 images of Child Sexual Abuse Materials onto a computer hard drive seized in October of 2021.

According to court documents, the Rochester Police Department received a cyber tip containing an IP address suspected of possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), or child pornography.

A subpoena of Charter Communications allegedly confirmed that the IP address was situated at a SW Rochester residence where Giles lived.

Rochester police seized a phone, iPad, external hard drive, and two computer towers, one of which allegedly contained child pornography, according to court documents.

Giles’ next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 21, 2023.
