(ABC 6 News) – A handful of Rochester Community and Technical College students got a first hand look at what could be ahead for those looking at a writing career.

Creative writing students heard from Erin Sharkey, a featured author in the college’s event “College Read: We Are Meant to Rise.” The event looks into the life experiences of the BIPOC community.

The event aims to allows students to learn more about a writing careers and hear from people with varying perspectives and experiences.

“We just want to make sure we bring in different individuals that we can relate to in a way or another, or if not necessarily, we can always open our minds up to see the world in a different view,” said Emily Yang, a multicultural advisor at RCTC.

RCTC plans on hosting similar events in the near future, with other featured authors who contributed to this years Common Read.
