The Chicks to play at Minnesota State Fair Grandstand this summer

(ABC 6 News) – The Minnesota State Fair announced on Tuesday that country music group, The Chicks, will play at the grandstand this summer.

The Chicks along with special guest, Wild Rivers, will play at the State Fair on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m.

The Chicks, composed of lead singer, Natalie Maines, and sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, rose to fame in 1998 with their breakthrough album, “Wide Open Spaces,” which won several awards at various award shows including “Best Country Album” at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards in 1999. The album produced three number-one songs on the U.S. Hot Country Songs Chart which included “There’s Your Trouble,” “Wide Open Spaces,” and “You Were Mine.”

The groups follow-up album, “Fly,” was released in 1999 and earned four Grammy nominations, winning two including “Best Country Album.” The album produced the hit songs “Ready to Run,” “Cowboy Take Me Away,” and “Goodbye Earl.”

The group won five Grammy Awards in 2007 for their album, “Taking the Long Way,” including “Album of the Year,” and “Record of the Year,” and “Song of the Year” for their hit single, “Not Ready to Make Nice.” 

In all, the group has won 13 Grammy Awards and multiple Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, American Music and Billboard Music awards.

The Chicks are one of the biggest-selling U.S. female bands of all-time having sold more than 30.5 million albums and are among an elite group of artists and the only female group to achieve multiple “diamond” selling (10 million copies) releases.
