(ABC 6 News) – The heavy snowfall early Thursday morning meant that a lot of kids got to sleep in after many schools canceled classes.

With the snow day, however, many kids also were pitching in alongside their parents to get their driveways cleared.

“It’s fun when we don’t have school, but the only downside is we have to shovel the driveway,” explained Elizabeth and Alexander Eidem, who both attend John Adams Middle School in Rochester.

They say when it snows in their family, everyone plays a part in the cleanup. While they like to help, they say they are not big fans of shoveling.

Many people across the area also spent part of their snow day digging out their homes.

“What I really like about a day like this is just how white everything is,” explained Paul Schneider, one of the many people shoveling their driveways. “It’s pretty and right now it’s really easy to blow.”

In Minnesota, sometimes work can be fun too.

“A lot of people say ‘why don’t you make your kids do it’ and I say, ‘well I like it too much, believe it or not,” Schneider laughed.

Just because Elizabeth and Alexander do not like some of the work, it doesn’t mean that they don’t love the fun the snow brings.

“We like to sled and play outside because there’s so much snow,” Elizabeth said.

“Probably my favorite thing to do is sledding,” her brother Alexander added.

He says he hopes it can be a snow day again on Friday, so that he can have a four day weekend.
