(ABC 6 News) – MercyOne will extend their awareness campaign for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week to the entire month of February.

Through Feb. 29, every baby born at MercyOne and Genesis a red hat to symbolize their commitment to healing hearts in patients of all ages.

According to the CDC, congenital heart defects are the most common birth defect in the country. The defect can affect the structure of a baby’s heart and how blood flows from the heart.
