(ABC 6 News) – The Rochester Public Library held a forum for candidates who are running for the Minnesota House of Representatives 20B.

Hosted by the League of Women Voters in Rochester, candidates Elise Diesslin and Steven Jacob took turns answering questions to give voters an idea of what they’re plans are if elected. Addressing topics like education, abortion and gun safety.

One of the question brought up the electoral college and whether or not it should reflect the popular vote.

“I think it would be better if it reflected the popular vote,” DFL MN House District 20B candidate, Elise Diesslin said. “demographics are changing and it should be representative of the popular vote and the electoral college, it’s not always representative one-to-one and I don’t think that it’s fair.”

Diesslin’s opponent, Republican Steven Jacobs argues that the current electoral system is correct and there is no need to change it.

“… if we went with an electoral system, nationally for our voting system basically New York, Los Angeles, and a few large metro areas would determine our elections.” Jacobs said.

Early voting beings September 23rd.

The deadline to register is October 18th.

The general election will be held November 8th.
