(ABC 6 News) – Three local authors held a book signing event at Peacock Books & Wildlife Books at the Galleria at University Square on Monday.
The event featured authors Amy Jo Hahn, author of “Hidden History of Rochester, Minnesota,” Virginia Wright-Peterson, author of “Rochester: An Urban Biography,” and Dr. Paul Scanlan, author of “Rochester Stories: A Med City History.”
“Many of us have heard the Mayo Clinic story, but this is about more than the Mayo Clinic story,” said Wright-Peterson.
“It’s supposed to highlight some of the stories we maybe don’t hear about as often or from local historians who know about some of the stories but give it a different angle,” explains Hahn.
Stories that were discovered through research, curiosity, and personal experiences.
“As a native of Rochester, over the years I’ve accumulated this repertoire of answers to questions that people have about Rochester and its history,” says Dr. Scanlan.
The three authors share the same admiration for discovering new stories throughout the city’s rich history. Each plays their part in preserving the legacy of those who came before us.
“My grandfather was a great storyteller, and people always used to say we should write these down but nobody ever did. so, this is kind of my tribute to my grandfather’s storytelling,” says Dr. Scanlan.
“I love history and learning more about our community, there’s I think layers of Rochester history most of us don’t know so it’s pretty awesome,” says customer and reader Beverly Parker.
