MN Debt Fairness Act: What to expect

The Minnesota Debt Fairness Act is a new bill to go through the State House of Representatives. Should it pass, the bill would ban hospitals from withholding medical services from patients in debt.

(ABC 6 News) – The Minnesota Debt Fairness Act is a new bill making its way through the state’s House of Representatives.

Should it pass, the bill would ban hospitals from withholding medical services from patients in debt and ban interest on medical debt.

The bill’s co-author, Senator Liz Boldon, says consumers should have a fair chance against debt collection practices that are predatory and only designed to drive people further into debt.

“That debt is a huge stress on people, and it has far reaching effects into housing, and childcare and putting food on the table. It has consequences that are significant for many many families,” said Boldon.
