(ABC 6 News) – In a Iowa, a bill introduced by Democrats would freeze tuition at public universities.

But with a Republican majority in both chambers, Democrats would need their support if the plan is to be included in the upcoming state budget.

Republicans have their own plan to limit tuition hikes in Iowa. Under their plan, universities would only be able to raise tuition by 3% each year.

If approved, the Democrat’s plan would go into affect this fall.
