(ABC 6 News) – On Monday, the Albert Lea City Council gave a man a life saving award for his bravery.

At the Youth for Christ Center on Dec. 11, 2023, Robert Scrabeck fainted and eventually stopped breathing, turning blue.

Luckily, Danny Martinez saw what happened and quickly jumped into action.

Martinez gave Scrabeck CPR, first responders at the scene say Martinez’ actions likely saved a life.

“I have a son who’s a paramedic in Denver, Colorado and he told me he said “Dad, if you would have waited for the ambulance to got there, your mind would have been gone. They wouldn’t have saved you,” said Scrabeck. “It’s people like Danny that makes our world safe.”

For his effort, Martinez was honored with a life-saving award on behalf of the Albert Lea Police Department.
