(ABC 6 News) – The Mower County Historical Society held their annual Christmas in the County event at the Mower County Fairgrounds on Saturday.

“We got the grandkids for the weekend and it’s a great opportunity to take them out to see some things and do something that they haven’t done before,” said Walt Alms.

Walt and his wife took their two grandkids out to Christmas in the County Saturday afternoon. One of the things they were especially looking forward to was the horse drawn trailer rides.

“We got to take him on a horse ride. A fun little adventure for him. He had never got to ride on a wagon before.” said Walt.

Roger Pittman and his family own the horses. And in the summers normally show their horses at draft horse competitions. He says that this is a nice relaxing change of pace and loves watching the kids interact with the horses.

“The little kids to see how much they enjoy it. Let them pet them and let them be close to them. A lot of them this is their only exposure to something like this,” said Roger.

He says that it’s an honor for him to have his horses at the event.

“There’s a lot of other ones in the area that could come and do just as well of a job as we do. It’s kind of an honor to be asked to come and do it. And we enjoy it and you got to give back to your community and this is our way of doing it,” said Roger.
