UPDATE: Body found at apartment complex likely a suicide

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: Rochester police confirmed Monday that a teenager found on the grounds of The Square on 31st Apartments complex likely died by suicide.

According to Capt. Casey Moilanen, a resident at the complex opened her blinds and saw what she believed was a dead body around 11:43 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

Law enforcement confirmed that the 19-year-old male, found in the southwest part of the complex, had died from a gunshot wound to the head, which appeared self-inflicted.

They recovered a gun near the body.

The teenager had discussed being depressed and contemplating suicide with friends and family, Moilanen said.

It is unknown when the teenager died, but another witness at the apartment complex told police he may have heard a single gunshot on the night of Thursday, Nov. 17, which he did not report.

The teenager’s body was frozen when it was found.

(ABC 6 News) – The Rochester police department is investigating a dead body found on the grounds of The Square on 31st Apartments complex Saturday morning.

Officers on the scene say they got the the tip around 11:30 a.m. from a tenant saying they found a body lying on the south end of the grounds.

Sergent Steve Thompson informed KAALTV that officers found a man they believe to be in his 20’s, with a wound to the head. They recovered a handgun near the victims body. They are treating this as a suicide but nothing has been confirmed.

Police say that he likely died overnight and was found frozen.

This is an ongoing investigation.
